Just like ASL has past and present tense, it has future tense as well. To indicate the future tense, you sign “WILL/FUTURE” at the beginning, end (or both for emphasis), of a phrase or sentence. The signer modifies the sign WILL/FUTURE depending on the distance of the future.
Here are some examples:
I’ll go to college in the future.
FUTURE ME GO COLLEGE WILL
She’s going to buy a new car.
BUY NEW CAR SHE WILL
Mike is going to ride his bike.
RIDE HIS BIKE MIKE WILL
There are other future time markers that need to be considered as well
Tomorrow
Next week
Next month
Next year
Time must always come first when signing
More examples:
I need to go to work tomorrow.
TOMORROW WORK I NEED GO
We are going to the movies later.
LATER MOVIE WE GO
I can’t wait to go on vacation next month
NEXT MONTH ME EXCITE WHAT VACATION
