Facial expressions are very important when using ASL. If you are telling someone you are very angry, but your face doesn’t show anger, it is equivalent to two hearing individuals talking, and one says he is angry, but the voice is soft and flat. I understand that when you first learn ASL, your face may not be illuminated. Make sure you give it time, as you practice. One of the reasons for your face not showing emotions, or expressions, is because you are focusing so hard on the signs, that you have forgotten to also use facial expressions. This happens to everyone. Eventually, your facial “signs” will be automatic.
